Massachusetts Attorney General Lawsuit
Under the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, the Attorney General can investigate and take action against businesses that engage in unfair or deceptive conduct, and prosecute a consumer protection case in the public interest. Stryker Biotech was reportedly investigated for years by the Massachusetts Attorney General for violations of the Consumer Protection Act. After a lawsuit was reportedly filed by the Attorney General against Stryker Biotech, a settlement was announced in 2010. Stryker Biotech agreed to pay $1.35 million to the state because the company had marketed orthopedic products for uses that had not been reviewed and approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and misled health care providers about the appropriate uses of its products.
