The recent lawsuits are:
- Johnson & Johnson baby powder or talcum powder. Talc or baby powder is alleged to be tainted by asbestos and causes ovarian cancer and mesothelioma.There have been recent billion dollar verdicts for plaintiffs in baby powder cases and they will likely continue to be in lawsuits throughout the nation. It will take some time to get through the system and eventually a settlement is hopeful. More case are expected in 2019 2020.
- Monsanto’s Roundup® and cancer. Monsanto makes a glyphosate-based herbicide, Roundup, and it is alleged to be linked to various cancers including non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Recently there was a lawsuit and a cancer victim was awarded $289 million in punitive and compensatory damages from Monsanto. It will take some time to get through the system and eventually a settlement is hopeful.
- Taxotere (Docetaxel) and permanent alopecia. This is a chemotherapy drug which can cause permanent hair loss or alopecia. However, patients were not warned of the permanency of this side effect because it was not listed in the warnings until 2015 in the U.S. Europe and Canada listed this side effect for 10 years before the manufacturer added it to US packages.
