Privacy and Data Security
The increasing dependency on cloud computing has meant that more sensitive information and personal data is being stored in remote data centers. Increased power in computing has made data encryption cracking and hacking more potent than ever. Since 2005, approximately 2,800 data breaches have taken place within the United States, with about 4% of these breaches leading to some form of federal lawsuits.
Security breaches threaten the personal information of consumers, as well as the intellectual property of technology companies. Well-designed controls, security breach policies, and other consumer agreements can sometimes help with these risks. However, in the cases where the breach caused significant harm to consumers, a lawsuit is usually necessary.
