Background on the Bebe Data Breach

Bebe has reportedly confirmed that they were the target of a hacking attempt in late 2014. It is alleged that between November 8, 2014 and November 26, 2014 hackers gained access to Bebe’s information systems and may have stolen personal information about Bebe customers. It is reported that those involved in Bebe’s internal investigation believe that the only data targeted was from payment cards (including credit cards and debit cards) swiped in Bebe stores throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. The stolen information may include cardholder name, account number, expiration date, and verification code. Purchases made through the Bebe website, mobile site/application, or in Canada, or our other international stores were reportedly not affected.

Bebe Stores, Inc. is a retailer of women’s fashion. The company operates 312 stores across the world, with many of them located in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada. The company operates stores under the names Bebe stores, BebeSport stores, Bebe/BebeSport 2-in-1 stores, and Bebe accessories stores. These are the stores suspected of being targeted by hackers during the November breach.

Cyber Attacks

A cyber-attack is the misuse of computer systems and networks by outside parties. Hackers use malicious code to change computer code or data, resulting in problems that can lead to cybercrimes like identity theft. Unfortunately, cyber-attacks are becoming more and more common as technology progresses. Trying to prevent attacks can only go so far, and if you’ve already suffered loss as a result of a cyber-attack, then legal action is the best option to put you back where you belong.

Data Breach

Some laws state that businesses who suspect they were the victim of a data breach must inform their customers of the breach immediately. This disclosure must be made in writing, as fast as possible, and without delay. Additionally, if the business was the source of the data breach, the business may have to offer identity theft prevention at no cost to the customer.

Bebe Class Action

It is reported that Bebe became aware of the hack on December 4th or 5th and notified their customers of the hack on December 5, 2014. If you have financial information on file with Bebe, have used your credit or debit card at a Bebe store between November 8 and November 26 of 2014, and have not been notified that your financial information may have been stolen by hackers, you may be part of a class action lawsuit.
